Segway tours faqs

What is a Segway?

The Segway is the first electrical driven transport where you maintain your balance. With dimensions less than the size of an adult and the ability of moving with your natural equilibrium, the Segway uses the same space as a pedestrian and you can go wherever a person can walk. The Segway allows people at home and at work to travel further, to move quicker and you can carry more weight than you normally could.

How does the Segway work?

Thanks to "dynamic stabilization", the essence of Segway, allows for smooth movements with the natural movement of your body. The gyroscopes and the sensors in the single controller adjusts the center of gravity of the user, approximately 100 times a second. When the user leans forward the Segway moves forward. When the user leans backwards the Segway moves in reverse.

At what speed does the Segway travel?

The maximum speed is 20km/h and you can make fast turns, which allows the users to travel in comfort in all open spaces. The users are responsible for using the Segway at an appropriate speed.

How do you ride a Segway?

It's very easy and with only 5 minutes practice you can ride a Segway with no problem! In our tours you will have a short time to practice before the start of every tour in a secure and comfortable environment.

Who can ride it?

The Segway is designed for every type of person after they have received some basic instruction, you don't need special abilities. The passenger needs to be able to do the following:

  • Get on and get off without assistance. You need similar physical abilities as getting on and off an escalator without the use of the hand-rail.
  • The passenger must weigh between 35.5 kg and 113 kg.
  • These activities are allow for children older than 16 years. It's important to understand that the Segway is not designed, not is capable of being used as medical transportation

Is the Segway safe?

Of course. It's basically the same as riding a bicycle or a scooter. The safety is one of the most important points for the R&D (research and development) department of Segway Spain. The base of the Segway is duplicated to guaranty that you can maintain your balance and stop in a safe way in the unlikely event that one of the components breaks. On the other hand, if you are going to hit someone or something your automatic reaction is to lean backwards which stops the Segway.

What limitations does the Segway have?

For reasons of security we recommend that pregnant women don't use a Segway.
